Woman admits £42,000 benefit fraud

A 42-year-old woman who admitted a £42,000 benefit fraud has been warned to prepare herself for a jail sentence.

Deborah O’Kane, of Victoria Gate, pleaded guilty to making a false declaration to obtain benefits and two charges of failing to notify the social secuity agency of a change in her circumstances.

The offences occurred over a six year period, from March 18, 2004 until May 30, 2010.

Derry Crown Court Judge Piers Grant adjourned sentencing for a probation pre-sentence report to be compiled.

O’Kane was released on continuing bail and will appear in court again on April 7.
