Woman pleads guilty to abandoning dog

A 42-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to abandoning a dog.

Denise Hynds, of Pelham Road, admitted the theft of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier worth £350 on October 26, last year.

She also admitted abandoning the dog between October 26 and October 30, 2013.

Sentencing was adjourned for a probation pre-sentence report.

District Judge Barney McElholm said Hynds would be ‘well advised’ to co-operate with probation as abandoning an animal is a ‘serious’ charge.

‘This poor dog was abandoned to run around in the street. But for the intervention of a good Samaritan anything could have happened to it.

‘That quite frankly is unforgivable’, the judge added.

Hynds will appear in court again on July 4.
