Criminals attack headstones in Derry cemetery

Criminals have damaged approximately 20 headstones and memorials in the City Cemetery.

Police are appealing for information following the incident in the Lone Moor Road area which occurred sometime between the evening of Tuesday May 31 and the morning of Wednesday June 1.

Inspector Jennifer Hudson called on anyone with information to come forward.

“At this time it is believed that approximately 20 headstones and memorials have been damaged. This will obviously cause distress to a number of families and the local community, therefore

“I would appeal to anyone with any information about this to contact Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
