Crusaders back ‘Opt for Life’

Crusaders Football Club is the latest sports side pledging to wear the logo for ‘Opt For Life’ – the organ donation organisation established by Joe Brolly – on their jerseys.

The team voted to show their support at a recent Board meeting, and join a number of other sports sides to support the campaign.

“The team will wear the ‘Opt For Life’ logo for the 2013/14 premiership season,” Joe Brolly told the ‘Journal’. “It now means the ‘big two’ in N.Belfast - Crues & Cliftonville, champions and runners up from last year’s premiership - will both be wearing optforlife on their shirts for the 13/14 season.”

Writing recently in the ‘Journal’ the dad-of-five said: “The purpose of my ‘Make Life Your Legacy’ campaign is to end the invisible tragedy of death on the waiting list. The proposed law change is simple: We will all automatically be donors unless we decide to opt out online. But, even if we do not opt out, our families will always have the final say at the hospital. This is vital, because I believe that donation is a sacred gift, given by one family to another at a very difficult time. I have seen it with my own eyes. The joy of the family whose loved one is saved. The great consolation to the donating family, even in the depths of their agony.”
