Culmore to Muff road works welcomed

Transport NI undertook the works on the road, which links the recently opened Culmore Country Park off Culmore Point and the border village of Muff.

Councillor Dobbins said: “The work of cutting back hedgerows and resurfacing the Coney Road has been long waited for, and this stretch of road from the entrance of Culmore Country Park towards the Muff border is particularly dangerous as it has treacherous hairpin bends and the road is so narrow in places that it is almost impossible for two cars to pass.

“The overgrown hedgerow, expanding verges and potholes were of great concern, not only to the motorists but to joggers, cyclists and families attempting to avail of the new Culmore Country Park.”

Colr. Dobbins said the greenery on that part of the Coney Road has now been stripped right back and the road resurfaced making it safer for the road users.

She added that Transport NI have give assurances that the remainder of the road from the Culmore Country Park to the Culmore Point Road will also be resurfaced, have street lighting installed and new footpaths to allow pedestrians safe access to the Country Park.

Colr. Dobbins said: “These works have been included in the Transport NI list of works for 2017/18 financial funding.

Subject to the available funding these works will be hopefully completed in time for the future projects designed for the Culmore Country Park.”
