The 5k walk/runs will be taking place at 4.15am with proceeds going towards the setting up of Pieta House in the north west to treat those in suicide crisis - a facility that thousands have been campaigning for for years.

The Derry event will be start and finish along the quayside by Sainsbury’s Café and traverse the Peace bridge.

At the exact same time in Buncrana, the walk there will be starting off and finishing at Scoil Mhuire, Convent of Mercy.

The start times has been arranged to coincide with the rising of the sun.

Plans are currently being developed to open a new cross-border facility to help people in the North West who are feeling suicidal by early 2017.

Pieta House already has nine facilities across the Republic and provides free treatment to those with suicidal tendencies and those who are self-harming.

The Irish charity has also just opened another centre in New York. The charity has committed to opening a centre locally in early 2017, with the location expected to be in Donegal.

Tom McEvoy, Pieta House Funding and Advocacy Officer recently said the charity was very well aware of the need for such a service in the North West, following a string of suicide tragedies across Derry and Donegal over recent years.
