A local councillor has condemned the dumping of a sheep along the road in Greysteel.
The animal was found on a grass verge adjacent to a field on Dunlade Road.
Sinn Fein councillor Dermot Nicholl said he was contacted by a resident on Monday about the discovery made by a walker.
“I think in this day and age, when there are proper methods of animal dispoal, that it is ridiculous someone would resort to dumping an animal like this,” said the Sinn Fein councillor.
“There are reasons why animals have to be disposed of in the correct manner. When it’s done like this, it is dangerous.
“What makes it all the more sinister is that the poor animal had its ear cut off, clearly in a bid to make sure it was untraceable. It is disgraceful and I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about where this animal came from and who their owner was to report it to the relevant authorities.”
A spokesperson for Causeway Coast & Glens Council confirmed their Technical Services team in Limavady lifted the carcass which will be disposed of.
