The cleansing work will take place from 8 a.m. in the Barrs Lane area of Hazelbank off the Hillfort Road.

Local Sinn Féin Councillor for the Foyleside District Electorial Area (DEA) Mickey Cooper has said he had asked Council officers to schedule the environmental cleansing works following representations from some of his constituents living in the area.

He said: “I had a number of requests for a deep clean of the streets to be carried out in the Barrs Lane area by local residents.

“I have arranged for the Derry City and Strabane District Council cleansing staff to carry out the work from 8 a.m. onwards on Thursday, June 25.”

Colr. Cooper asked car owners who were able to do so to park away from the Barrs Lane area on the day of the cleaning work.

He said this would allow the DC&SDC cleansing team to more thoroughly conduct the work.

“I would urge residents who have a car and are not planning to be leaving the area that morning that it would be useful if you could park away from the streets whilst the work is ongoing to allow the staff maximum access to the footpaths to ensure no rubbish is missed,” said the Foyleside DEA representative.

“I hope this is of assistance to residents and if they need any further help they should not hesitate to contact me,” he added.
