The Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) area has been rated the worst area to live in the North, according to an in-depth investigation carried out by Belfast based news website, The Detail.

The investigation looked at how life compared for people living in the North after 26 local councils were replaced by 11 district councils on April 1, 2015.

The Detail concluded that out of the 11 new super council areas in the North, the Derry and Strabane council area is at the bottom of the table, with the highest rates, the highest level of unemployment (8 per cent), highest free school meal entitlement, the highest levels of housing stress, plus lower levels of life expectancy.

The Detail also found that the average salary in the Derry and Strabane council area is the lowest in the North at £16,580. The same figure for Belfast is almost £3,000 more at £19,338.
