Derry and Strabane unemployment rate decreases by 130 people

The number of people who received unemployment related benefits in the Derry and Strabane council area in March was 130 fewer than what it was in February.

The reduction represents a 2.1 per cent decrease in the number of people that received unemployment related benefits.

Derry City and Strabane District Council still has the highest unemployment rate (6.3 per cent) out of all 11 super councils in the North. Belfast City Council is second worst off with 4.4 per cent of the working population in receipt of unemployment related benefits.

Despite being the council area with the highest level of unemployment the number of people claiming unemployment related benefits in Derry and Strabane has decreased by 953 (13.7 per cent) over the last 12 months.
