A Derry-born author is to write the official biography of broadcaster Sir David Frost who died last year.
Neil Hegarty, originally from Culmore Road, has been commissioned to write ‘Frost on Frost’, with the full collaboration of Frost’s widow and three sons.
The book will include unpublished writings from Frost and Hegarty will have access to the television presenter’s archive as well as to people who knew him.
‘Frost on Frost’ is said to be “an epic story of personal achievement set amidst a rapidly changing world, encountering the great and the good that have dominated news and entertainment over the last 50 years”.
WH Allen acquired world English rights in the book from the Frost family and Simon Fuller at XIX Management.
Simon Fuller says Neil Hegarty - a past pupil of St Columb’s College - is the “perfect person” for the job.
He added: “I got to know David well in the last decade of his life. He was a remarkable man and I am proud to be involved in sharing his inspiring story.
“Wilfred and I discussed many potential authors and I am confident that Neil is the perfect person for the job. The material is unquestioned, now we want to bring it to life.”
Wilfred Frost added: “I am delighted to be working with Simon, Ed [Faulkner] (of Ebury Publishing) and Neil on the one definitive book on dad’s life. Ed shares our vision for really wanting to explain ‘the man’ and not just his career.
“Dad always sought to discover what made people tick, and I look forward to helping Neil do exactly the same with dad.”
‘Frost on Frost’ will be published in hardback in September 2015.
