The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) will be running blood donation sessions in the Guildhall on Wednesday and Thursday.
The sessions will run from 1.30pm to 4pm and from 5.15pm to 8pm on both days.
Local Sinn Fein Derry City Councillor, Colly Kelly, said it was important people think about donating blood as it could save someone’s life.
“I was recently dealing with an issue for a constituent who had been very ill. During the course of the conversation they were telling me amongst other things that they had to get blood transfusions on a number of occasions over the past few years.
“I was very shocked that this was a young person who needed this life saving treatment. You always think of patients needing blood transfusions in the event of road accidents but this brought home to me that rarely do we think of people with medical conditions needing such treatment all year around,” he said.
