Derry based production company, Convergent Media Ltd, have organised for world famous Cuban band, Buena Vista Social Club, to play for U.S. President Barack Obama in the White House.
Convergent Media Ltd is a joint venture between international media law firm SmithDehn LLP, who are legal architects behind path-breaking projects such as ‘CitizenFour’ (Oscar - winner), ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ (Oscar - winner), ‘The Imposter’ (BAFTA - winner), ‘Da Ali G Show’ and ‘Borat’.
Convergent Media, launched in Derry last year (then called Social Construct Media), is a dynamic new force in international film and television development, financing, production and sales.

A White House spokesperson said: “On Thursday, October 15, the President will deliver remarks and attend a reception in honour of Hispanic Heritage Month and the 25th Anniversary of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. The reception will feature a musical performance by the Cuba-based band, the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club. The Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club is the first Cuba-based band to perform at the White House in over 50 years.”
Convergent Media Ltd are producing the eagerly awaited film ‘Buena Vista Social Club - Adios’ and the concert in the White House on Thursday will feature in the film.
Coincidentally, Buena Vista Social Club played a concert in the Venue in Derry in 2013.
