A Derry hair stylist has been crowned All-Ireland Overall Ladies Hair Champion.
Michael Deery, 27, from Creggan is Creative Director at RoCo Eco-Organic Hair and Beauty Salon on the Strand Road.
Michael saw off competition from hair stylists from all over Ireland at the All Ireland Hair Championships recently and will now go forward to compete in the European Championships in Paris later this year.
“I am absolutely over the moon with the award,” said Michael.
“It means a lot to me to have won this title.”
And, Michael’s exploits did not stop with just one award. He also finished first in the Ladies’ Full Fashion and Ladies’ Fashion Day Style categories as well as runner-up in the following categories: All-Ireland Over All Gents’ Hair Championship; Ladies’ Bridal; Gents’ Full Fashion; All Ireland Ladies’ Colour Trophy and All Ireland Gents’ Creative Colour.
Using organic and mineral colours, RoCo hair products and their latest pixelated hair technique, Michael performed better than he could have expected.
Michael added: “I always had an idea of how I wanted to perform at the awards but to be honest I am delighted with how everything went,” added Michael.
RoCo co-owner, Ronan Stewart, said the good news was just what the business needed after it was forced to relocate following the Mandarin Palace fire in March this year.
“Everyone has been feeling a little deflated after the fire but Michael’s success has given us the get-up-and-go we needed to get back on top.
“I am delighted for Michael. He has come through our academy and has done really well - he is a real asset to RoCo and it’s great to see one of our own doing really well.
“We have been doing really well since we have had to relocate and we will be opening a new premises in the not too distant future. The future is really bright for RoCo.”
