The mole (Talpa europaea) can be found throughout Europe but not in Ireland.

It is believed the reason why there are no moles in Ireland is because the sea level rose quickly during the Ice Age which meant the animals, like several other UK mammals, were not able to make it across the sea.

The customer who made the observation said “mole repellent in Derry is as much use as an inflatable dartboard”.

“I am no animal expert but I would have thought a big company like Homebase would know there are no moles in Ireland.

“Mole repellent in Derry is as much use as an inflatable dartboard - I’d be interested in knowing if they sold any of these items,” said the customer.”

Homebase declined the opportunity to comment.
