Globally revered newspaper, ‘The Observer’, printed a photo taken by Derry amateur photographer at the weekend.
The photo, which was taken by 54 year-old, Mickey Rooney appeared in the paper on Sunday and on the ‘Guardian’ website as well.
Mickey completed a City and Guilds level 2 qualification in photography last year at North West Regional College.
Every week, The Observer, picks a theme and asks readers to send in their photographic interpretation.
When Mickey saw that the latest theme was ‘Single’ he knew he had just the photo.
“I associated the ‘Single’ theme with my collection of seven and 12 inch singles. I literally took the first ones I could find, spread them on the floor and took the photo.
“By chance, three Derry bands are in there, ‘The Moondogs’, ‘The Undertones’ and ‘That Petrol Emotion’.
“I didn’t know it had been published until I picked up the paper on Sunday - I was well pleased,” said Mickey.
