Derry nun to lead Good Shepherd Sisters

A Derry born nun has been elected as the Irish Provincial of the Good Shepherd Sisters. Sister Eithne McDermott from the Culmore Road area of the city is the first nun from Derry to lead the Good Shepherd Sisters in Ireland.

Sister Eithne, who will take up her new six year appointment at the end of July, was elected at the Order’s Provincial Chapter in Newry last weekend.

Sister Eithne has previously been General Secretary of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Rome and she has also worked extensively in the Czech Republic, setting up the Order’s first community there.
