Derry people with prosthetic limbs invited to open day

Derry people with prosthetic limbs are invited to attend a special Regional Prosthetic Open Day at Musgrave Park Hospital in Co. Antrim on Saturday April 9.

The event has been organised by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (B.H.S.C.T.) and will run from 10a.m. to 3p.m.

The open day will take place in the Mitre Building and attendees will hear personal talks from three long term Prosthetic Service users and will be shown what help and support is available within the Regional Prosthetic Service.

Attendees will also be invited to see the different type of prosthesis available and learn more about what support services are available through Allied Health Professionals.

Attendees will be given an opportunity to ‘have a go’ and understand other significant impacts: trying out how to ride a bike with an artificial leg; bowling with an artificial hand; use of gym equipment with a prosthesis; shown how the limbs are manufactured and covered; having their weight and potential for diabetes tested; learn about the psychological impact of limb loss and information on benefits they may be entitled to.
