Derry’s Jordan needs your votes

Drumahoe singer Jordan O’Keefe has asked the people of Derry to get behind him in tomorrow night’s semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent.

Speaking to the ‘Journal’ yesterday the 18-year-old said: “I’ve been in London since Tuesday and spent most of yesterday in rehearsals. They’re going well but I still need the votes. The phone number will not be released until the show goes live on Saturday but I am hoping that the people of Derry get behind me and pick up the phone.”

Already overwhelmed by the support up to now, Jordan is up against eight other acts and is hoping that he can wow the television audience with a “very famous song by a very famous artist.”

With eight family and friends travelling to London to support the former Oakgrove Integrated College student, Jordan says he has gained great confidence in recent weeks.

“I have only been gigging around Derry for around 18 months but the initial Britain’s Got Talent audition gave me confidence and with rehearsals going well this week, I am starting to get used to the larger stage setting.

“It has been some experience up to now - from the Abercorn Bar to a live television talent show - it doesn’t get much more different than that!”

Down to the last 45 acts, the popular teenager has already been given 10/1 odds to lift the title before getting through tomorrow night’s show but that pressure is not something he’s thinking about.

“It’s been great to have that support, and it has been a lot of pressure but I’m trying to put that out of my mind and just enjoy the moment.

“This week has been brilliant, working backstage and getting to know the other acts better. I’ve also been working with a professional vocal coach which has been really beneficial. I hope that the hard work will pay off on Saturday.”

Jordan wowed the judges in his original audition when he sang a rendition of One Direction’s top-selling hit song. ‘Little Things’.

It gained him the all-important four yes votes from the judges, including Simon Cowell, who is notoriously difficult to get on-side.

Jordan’s Britain’s Got Talent semi-final will be shown on ITV1 at 7pm, with the results at 9.30pm
