The Venue - Derry’s temporary City of Culture concert hall due to be dismantled next year - could be set for a reprieve.
Stormont’s Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said The Venue at Ebrington has been central to the success of the City of Culture year and has now confirmed his officials are seeking private sector interest in its retention beyond the end of this year.
“Without the Venue, the UK City of Culture would not have been as fantastic as it has been. I am also aware that there is a growing appetite in the North West to keep the Venue open, if viable, after this year.
“So I have asked my officials to investigate whether there is capacity or potential within the private sector to keep the Venue beyond 2013,” he said.
An information session will be held for potential investors in the Venue on October 11 at 2 pm.
