Derry remains the north’s economic hotspot new dole figures confirm.

Figures released today by the Department of Enterprise,Trade and Investment, show almost 6000 people in the city are claiming unemployment related benefits.

In Derry a total of 5997 people, or 8.4% of the working age population were signing on in February 2012.

That rate is more than double that in Antrim, Castlereagh, and North Down.

Across the north the number of unemployment benefit claimants increased by 200.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster says the rise “highlights the continued pressures on the labour market in Northern Ireland in 2012.”
