The Temple that has attracted massive crowds in Derry has been burned to the ground.
Tens of thousands of people had already visited David Best’s Temple at the Top of the Hill, and left their messages and mementos inside. The Temple and all its contents have now been burned to the ground in a special ceremony.
The Temple site was closed to the public all day on Saturday 21st March. This was to prepare for the burn and make the site safe. It re-opened at 18:00 (6pm), after all safety checks had taken place. The Temple, with all the messages left by people from all around the world, was set alight at 8pm.
David Best is famous for the Burning Man events in the USA. This was the first time he has been involved in a similar event taking place outside of the United States.
