Derry woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Derry Magistrates’ court recently for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Veronica McConnell (48) of Abbots Walk in Derry claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support totalling £12,343 while failing to declare employment.

She was given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £49.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
