Now known as the Walled City Artisan Market, the return date was confirmed at the monthly meeting of the Derry City and Strabane District Council (D.C.S.D.C.) Business and Culture Committee in the Council Chamber in Strabane on Tuesday afternoon.

Sinn Fein Councillor Patricia Logue said she was looking forward to the return of the market.

“I am really excited about the re-launch of the market,” said Colr. Logue.

“I hope that it is really successful and I wish everyone involved the very best of luck,” she added.

D.C.S.D.C. announced the decision to spend £60,000 on the re-launch the Walled City Mark back in February.

The key objective of the re-launch is to ensure a high level of specialist, quality foods (meat, fish and fresh produce), a gourmet offering and additional products such as coffee, flowers and arts and crafts.

The application process for anyone interested in taking part in the Walled City Artisan Market closes at 12p.m. on Saturday April 16.

It is anticipated that the newly re-launched market will exceed initial targets of 20 traders and will showcase a minimum of 25.

Council officers also announced their desire to review the idea of Strabane Market. An update on this is expected in June.
