Detention of Tony Taylor '˜unjust and indefensible' - SF

Sinn Fein representatives have called for the immediate release of Derry man Tony Taylor who has been incarcerated for a year without charge.

Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney said that Tony was sent to prison on the word of the James Brokenshire’s predecessor Teresa Villiers without bringing forward any evidence.

Mr McCartney said: “In October past, Martin McGuinness raised this directly with James Brokenshire and told him the continued detention of Tony Taylor is unacceptable and made it clear that, in the absence of due process, he should be released immediately.”

Sinn Féin Youth representatives in Derry meanwhile have also reiterated the call for Mr Taylor’s immediate release.

Local chairperson Caolán Mac Fhionnghaile said: “It’s important that we continue to raise the case of Tony Taylor.

“In past number of days Sinn Féin National Chairperson, Declan Kearney and local MLA Raymond McCartney have called for Tony’s release.

“Sinn Féin has continued to raise this matter with the British Secretary of State and will do so again.

“The detention of Tony Taylor is unjust and indefensible. He should be released immediately.”
