Sadly, Derry and Strabane will not be European Youth Capital for 2019.

The title went to Novi Sad in Serbia.

A team from Derry City and Strabane District Council travelled to Varna in Bulgaria for the announcement which took place on Wednesday evening.

The Derry and Strabane bid reached the final shortlist of five cities which included Manchester (England), Novi Sad (Serbia), Amiens (France) and Perugia (Italy).

The first ever E.Y.C. was Rotterdam in 2009. The cities who have held and who are due to hold the title are as follows: Turin (2010); Antwerp (2011); Braga (2012); Maribor (2013); Thessaloniki (2014); Cluj-Napoca (2015); Ganja (2016); Varna (2017) and Cascais (2018).
