DJ People of the Year Brett McGinty takes home Sports Person of the Year Award
Sports Person of the Year at The Derry Journal People of the Year awards went to St Johnston boxer Brett McGinty.
The gathered audience heard how Brett has emerged as a special talent in North West amateur boxing circles over recent years.

Hide AdThe Oak Leaf clubman has been described as being in “mesmerising” form since winning silver at the Commonwealth Youth Games in September last year in Samoa where he captained the Northern Ireland team.
The talented teenager represented his country at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Anapa, Russia, during the summer where he narrowly missed out on a medal having reached the quarter finals.
He bounced back two months later as he retained his Irish Under 18 welterweight title at the National Stadium recently to take his national title victories to a remarkable eight.
His recent successes will almost certainly have guaranteed Brett his spot in the Irish squad for the World

Hide AdYouth Championships in St Petersburg, Russia next November, during what will be his final year as an underage boxer.
Brett received the Sports Person of the Year award for the hard work, intense training and the commitment necessary to achieve his successes.
