Donegal tipped to back Dana’s bid

Former Eurovision winner Dana Rosemary Scallon’s hopes of getting a nomination to contest the Presidency could take a step closer next week when Donegal County Council meet to discuss whether to back her.

It is understood Fianna Fáil councillors have secured the meeting in an effort to get the council to back the former MEP’s bid to join the race for Áras an Uachtárain.

Tipperary South independent TD Mattie McGrath has said he is prepared to sign nomination papers.

The former Fianna Fáil politician said if Dana chose not to accept his support he would discuss the matter with his supporters before deciding whether to support another candidate.
