Police at Strand Road in Derry are seeking information about what appears to have been an attempt to hijack a car.

Constable Burns, of the City West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said that at about 1.20am on Saturday (May 30) a man was sitting in his car, a blue Audi, at Victoria car park. A man approached and asked for a cigarette, after which the driver was pulled from his vehicle and punched in the face several times.

One arrest was made at the scene, however, police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw what happened. Information can be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
