A 36-year-old Limavady man has been disqualified from driving for one year after he was caught driving with excess alcohol in breath.
Stephen Andrew James Purdy of Roemill Gardens appeared at Limavady Magistrates Court on Wednesday
The court heard on October 19, 2014 at 2am police observed a car driving towards Mill Place and straddle the centre line.
When they stopped Purdy police could smell alcohol. Purdy said he had taken alcohol earlier that evening.
He failed a preliminary breath test and an evidential breath test later revealed a reading of 51.
Defence solicitor Paddy McGurk said Purdy had been drinking earlier but had stopped at 9pm.
Mr McGurk said Purdy’s partner had been at a hen party and had been stuck for a taxi and had called him for a lift.
He said Purdy made a judgement call and thought he would be okay to drive.
Mr McGurk said Purdy knows he would face serious consequences.
District Judge Peter King also imposed a £300 fine.
