Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has called on people in Derry to mobilise for the Community Against Cuts (CAC) rally to be held in Writers Square in Belfast on Saturday.
“The Tory Welfare Cuts are having a damaging effect on frontline services right across all departments as well as severely penalising those on benefits and low incomes,” said Colr. Duffy.
“The rally organised by CAC is an opportunity for everyone from right across the North to stand up and tell the Tory government that these cuts are unacceptable.
“I would appeal to the trade unions, campaign groups, resident associations, community organisations, disability advocates and individuals who will be affected by these cutbacks to attend the rally.
“It is important that we mobilise a large crowd of people from right across the political and religious divide to oppose these vicious cuts. They will impact upon all sections of the community whether it is in Shantallow or Newbuildings .
“The rally to be held at 1pm in Writers Square Belfast is one part of the campaign to ensure that we protect the most vulnerable in society and support frontline services.”
Colr. Duffy invited anyone interested in taking part in the rally to get in contact.
“We are running a number of buses from Derry. We would ask as many people as possible to attend to send a clear message that people here are opposed to these Tory cuts.”
