Last year their hard work earned Dungiven the Most Improved Town in a regional competition, and this year a bunch of committed residents want to go one better and scoop the title of Best Kept Town.
Last year residents rolled up their sleeves and donned overalls to clean up derelict buildings in the town and, in general, improve the appearance of the Main Street.
While many businesses and residents take great pride in their properties, there have been a few areas that needed some attention. Taking aim at the top prize this year, the Dungiven Town Clean Up Committee were out in action again this past weekend.
“Last year the kids had a ball doing it,” said Carol O’Kane, who is on the committee. ”It’s all about taking pride in the town and it’s a totally cross community effort and we thank the Council for all their help.”
Dungiven Sinn Fein Colr. Sean McGlinchey praised the committee for their dedication and said the whole town should be proud of the committee and added: “The men of the town could learn a few things from them and the way they have put in so much hard in a great community project.”
