Mr. Durkan said the campaign aims to keep roads in Derry and throughout the North safe over the festive period.

Drivers are encouraged to visit www.DesignatedDriver.ie to download a voucher entitling them to two free soft drinks when presented at participating pubs, restaurants and hotels in the north, including many in Derry.

Mr. Durkan said: “It is a fantastic initiative which rewards drivers for being responsible. It is important to take precautions getting to and from festivities, whether by appointing a designated driver or making other arrangements.

“This campaign makes it easier for people to do the right thing and helps us to bring people home safely this Christmas.”
