A new nursery in Limavady has injected a much needed boost into the borough’s employment market, with the creation of 13 new jobs.

Cocoon Daycare Nursery is owned by sisters, Shauna Devine and Deborah Deehan, both mums to young children. Mrs. Devine said they had toyed with the idea of opening a nursery for some years.

“We finally decided to go for it about a year and a half ago, when Deborah was unable to find childcare for her two young children either in Limavady or Coleraine,” Mrs Devine explained.

The nursery held a successful open day at the Windyhill Road facility last week.

“We had a lot of very positive feedback from parents. Indeed, many have already signed up. We can cater for up to 30 children on a full-time basis - many more if it’s part-time. We also have two rooms upstairs which are not in use at present,” said Shauna, who has four young children.

“Deborah and I are the owners of the nursery and we have employed a manager, who is fully qualified, to run it. Deborah will be there all the time and I will be there on a part-time basis. All eleven of our staff are qualified to NVQ Level 3 in childcare.”

There is the possibility of expansion to after-school’s care down the line, so the number of employees could increase, said Mrs. Devine.

“Deborah has three children and we are both very aware of the importance of childcare. I have always worked full time and understand how difficult it is juggle work, parenting and all the concerns that go with it. I’m Head of English and literacy co-ordinator at Limavady High School and I am acutely aware of the importance of the early years in a child’s development - socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually,” she said. “I also understand, that with the best will in the world, it is not always possible for a working mother to give their child everything all of the time. Our nursery will cater for the needs of the indivicual child in all aspects of development.”

Cocoon Daycare Nursery is at 16 Windyhill Rd,b eside LBS. Mrs Devine said the opening date will be announced shortly.
