Sinn Féin representatives led by Foyle MLA Maeve McLaughlin have met with new Ulster University Vice-Chanchellor Paddy Nixon and Magee Provost Deirdre Heenan to discuss progress on the expansion of Magee.

Speaking afterwards, Ms McLaughlin said the discussions had been “frank and honest”:

“We emphasised the point that expansion of Magee remains critical to the economic and social regeneration of Derry and the wider North West.

“We are hopeful that the new Ulster University leadership will pledge a genuine commitment to Derry and the North West and that this commitment will be made public and delivered on.

“We made it clear that this is not simply about numbers but about types of courses the city needs and how they link into our economic opportunities.

“We also need to take advantage of the huge prospects available to develop cross border regional opportunities with Derry and Magee as a gateway university city for the wider North West region,”
