A Derry academic has received a prestigious accolade honouring his pioneering work in the field of brain disorders.
Professor Scott Kelso, who was born in the city but is now based at Florida Atlantic University, and who is currently the Visiting Professor at the Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC) at Magee, has received the Bernstein Prize - the highest award of the International Society of Motor Control. He says he is deeply honoured and humbled to receive the Bernstein Prize.
“At the same time, I am grateful to all my teachers and professors for inspiring me to work in this scientific field and to all my students and colleagues for their genius, talent and labour without which this award would never have been possible.”
The Bernstein Prize is awarded on a biennial basis.
