Éigse Cholmcille this weekend

This year’s Éigse Cholmcille festival will get underway at Magee tonight and the theme of the weekend will be ‘Music of Emigration.’ The festival will begin tonight at 7pm and will be launched by Ailbe O Corráin.

The launch will be followed by the Éigse lecture, which is titled ‘Different Worlds, music, emigration, social change in the Irish experience’, and will be delivered by Martin Dowling, the well-known academic and fiddler.

After the lecture a new book on the placenames of Inishowen by Seoirse O Dochartaigh will be launched at Magee.

On Saturday, Derry-based musician and teacher, Marcas O Murchu, will give a talk on 100 years of Irish traditional music in America.

The music will continue on Saturday night with the festival concert in Cultúrlan Uí Chanáin with a host of performers.
