The walkway through Brooke Park will be closed off for one week from 24 August, the local council has said.
The closure is to allow contractors to carry out drainage works to the park at Infirmary Road.
Apologising for any inconvenience caused, a spokesperson for Derry City and Strabane District Council said that the drainage works are an important part of the £5.6m regeneration plan that will transform the historic public park. The spokesperson added that work on the project is progressing well with the completed project expected to be ready by summer 2016.
The regeneration project involves the restoration of the Gate Lodge, a new pavilion and play garden, the reinstatement of the ornamental oval pond, creation of a new Horticulture Training Centre and growing area and a new Contact Sports Centre. It also includes provision for a new MUGA, improved Bowling Club facilities, car parking, access, enhanced wildlife habitat and the placement of new furniture and seating.
