Sinn Féin Derry City & Strabane District Councillor Eric McGinley has said refurbishment of lighting in Ballymagroarty will help improve safety in the area.

Colr. McGinley was speaking as he welcomed the increased number of street lighting standards being replaced in the estate.

Colr. McGinley said: “In response to my request street lighting engineers initiated a replacement programme for standards along the main thoroughfares in Ballymagroarty.

“As work progressed it became evident that a greater number of street lights needed to be replaced.

“I am pleased to say that a total of almost 70 new standards will be installed as part of this ongoing programme.

“Not only will this initiative provide better quality lighting for Ballymagroarty it will also considerably enhance the appearance of the estate and I would take this opportunity to commend Transport NI’s street lighting section for its positive response to my request on behalf of residents.”
