Shantallow Sinn Féin councillor Elisha McCallion has welcomed news of a regeneration project for the area around the Galliagh roundabout.

Colr. McCallion said the pledge from the Department of Social Development to regenerate the area as part of the Restore Project would be welcomed by local residents.

The project will involve a clean-up operation in the area around the Galliagh co-op and a reimaging of the Galliagh roundabout.

“This is fantastic news and I gladly welcome it,” colr McCallion said.

“The Galliagh area sees a lot of traffic travelling through it therefore it is vital that the area looks clean and tidy. This will bring a lift not only to the local area but also to residents and it is just what they deserve,” she added.

Colr. McCallion also said she hoped the Restore Project can kick start a wider regeneration of the greater Galliagh area. “We hope that this will also lead to much needed investment in the area which will further benefit Galliagh and its residents.

“As a local resident I see Galliagh every day and I recognise the need for more of these regeneration schemes as they bring untold benefits.

“I will therefore will be lobbying more of these projects from the department,” Colr. McCallion said.
