Donegal County Councillor Terry Crossan has suggested that signage could be put in place at each end of the Muff Greenway outlining ‘requirements for dog walkers to keep their animals under control’.

Speaking at this month’s Inishowen Municipal District meeting, which was held in Carndonagh on Tuesday, the Sinn Fein councillor said there has been an ‘ongoing issue of walking and controlling of dogs on the greenway.’

"It has come to attention that not everyone knows the regulations and rules of walking dogs in public. It might be an idea that we could have signage at each end of the greenway, outlining the requirements for dog walkers to keep their animals under control.”

Colr Crossan outlined how there had been a ‘number of incidents’ involving dogs at the greenway, including one during which an 80-year-old man was bitten.

Colr Crossan said Donegal County Council has a ‘duty of care’ to make dog owners ‘aware of what their responsibilities are’.
