Young people terrorising residents of the Ballycolman estate in Strabane have been told “their anti-community activities must end now.”
In recent weeks windows have been smashed, paint poured over cars and wheelie bins set on fire in the area.
Sinn Fein say only a small number of young people are involved but say they have no concept of the misery and financial hardship they are inflicting on local residents.
A statement issued by the local Jim Mc Ginn Sinn Féin Cumann said: “In recent weeks there has been an upsurge in anti-community activity in the wider Ballycolman/Melmount area and we have been inundated with complaints from residents about the activities of a very small number of young people who appear to have neither respect for people or property.
“From what we can establish a group/or groups of only 4-5 young people have been involved in each of these incidents but regardless of their small numbers they appear to be totally oblivious to the misery and financial hardship they have caused to the unfortunate residents who have been on the receiving end of their activities.
“The message must be sent out loud and clear to those involved that their anti-community activities must end now. Those involved must consider how they would feel if it were their family who were on the receiving end of the activities they have been engaged in.”
