Evening in memory of Sister Clare Crockett

Sister Clare Crockett who was a missionary worker with the Home of the Mother Order at Playa Prieta perished when the quake demolished the school in which she taught.

The event will also raise funds for the Kevin Bell Trust, the organisation which helped repatriate Sister Clare’s remains back to her native city for burial.

The Kevin Bell Trust was established in 2013 to help return the remains of Irish people who die suddenly abroad.

Entertainment at the DelacroixOn July 22, will be provided by Mickey Doherty, who will also host the event, The Real Thing, Danika and DJ Jim Healey.

Sister Clare, a former Nazareth House Primary School and St Cecilia’s College pupil died as she tried to help children to safety when the earthquake hit.

Hundreds of people packed into St Columba’s Church, Long Tower, close to her family home in the Brandywell area for her Requiem Mass.

Fr Eamon Graham, who led the service, said: “She was a striking example of Derry womanhood.

“Clare asked herself what she could do to make the world a better place and how she could serve God and help the most vulnerable.

“And to do that she went to the far end of the earth and she took her goodness with her.

The funeral was attended by the Bishop of Derry, Dr Donal McKeown and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and SDLP leader Colum Eastwood.
