Events planned to celebrate city's Fair Trade status
Foyle Fairtrade have developed a programme of exhibitions and happenings over the coming days.
Eden Place Arts Centre at Pilots Row is hosting a photo exhibition on Coffee Production by Shaun Hawkey from today. Heydi Janeth Espino Mairena and Haris Ulises Lopez Picado of the Soppexcca coffee co-operative in Nicaragua will visit Derry today to meet children from local schools and officially open the exhibition. The launch is open to the public and takes place from 12.30 p.m.

Hide AdTonight, Heydi and Haris will be the guests at the city’s third Fairtrade Birthday Party in The Sandwich Co., Bishop Street. Performing at the event will be Maria Cutliffe, Rebecca Mulhern, Paddy Nash & Diane Greer and ‘Teknopeasant. ‘The Bring Your Own event will run from 7.30 p.m. until late.
Speaking about a new initiative being launched on Monday. Donna McFeely, Foyle Fairtrade chair, said: “The Fairtrade movement have criteria for becoming a Fairtrade cafe, retailer, school, place of worship, or workplace. We’ve decided to extend that list to local homes. If you can commit to your household only buying Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar from now on, we invite you to join the ‘Our House Is Fairtrade’ campaign.”
