Julie Cummings started teaching at Roe Valley Integrated Primary School in 2005, one year after it opened.
A decade on and Julie, currently the school’s vice-principal, is set to become the school’s second principal.
“I am truly delighted,” said Julie of the appointment which starts on September 1.
“I have been part of the school’s development and vision since 2005, so I’m very excited. It feels fantastic.”
Julie, a former senior teacher at the school, has taught in all areas of the school. She is also coordinator of pastoral care and all curriculum areas.
The Waterside woman can’t wait to start her new role.
Since the news was made public, Julie said she has been overwhelmed by support and good wishes.
“I’m looking forward to a new chapter, and to moving forward with the vision of the school,” said Julie, including work on a school build.
“I feel very proud and very privileged. Roe Valley Integrated Primary School is an excellent school, and I have a great relationship with parents, staff and pupils.”
The Board of Governors said they “are very much looking forward to working alongside Julie” as she “embarks on this exciting time for both her and our school”.
Julie takes over from current principal, Anne Quinn, who is retiring.
