The North Derry Republican Group have claimed responsibility for shooting at a house in Dungiven.
In a telephone call to the Derry Journal on Tuesday evening, the group said they were behind the gun attack at Kevin Lynch Park on Monday night.
No-one was injured in the shooting which happened after 10pm. The front windows and door of the house were extensively damaged. No-one was at home at the time.
In their statement to the Journal, the North Derry Republican Group confirmed that a shotgun had been used in the attack and warned that had the house been occupied it would have been a “whole different story”.
The group made a threat against a male they claim lives in the house and warned that “next time” they “will put him out of the country”.
The attack has left local residents fearful, with some families moving out of their homes afterwards.
Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey condemned the gun attack and said there was no room for such attacks in society.
The same group has also claimed responsibility for previous attacks in the Dungiven area.
Police have appealed for witnesses to Monday night’s gun attack to contact them.
