Extreme finale plan for Maritime Festival
Plans are under way to create a major Foyle Maritime Festival finale, with a world first motorcycle dare devil extravaganza on floating pontoons on the River Foyle.
The ‘Xtreme Action’ event is expected to be staged on the last day of the festival, which will run from July 9 to 17 this year.
The world-famous two wheeled dare-devil outfit are bringing top riders from the UK to perform at the event.
They will be led by Jamie Squibb, who has recently toured with Nitro Circus.
The group will be performing a range of death-defying stunts 40ft in the air across a 75ft gap from pontoon to pontoon on their state of the art FMX bikes. It is believed that the event will be free to watch, and will mark the departure of the Clipper fleet following their stop over in Derry.
Also featuring at this year’s festival will be the Legenderry Eye and the Phoenix Tall Ship, which has featured in hit recent movie and TV productions including ‘In the Heart of the Sea’, ‘Poldark’ and ‘Outlander’. There will be tours of the tall ship on offer for the final four days of the festival.
At Guildhall Square meanwhile, people are advised to watch out for Captain Nick as his band of pirates during the festival, as the music strikes up daily at 12 noon.
Pirate selfies, water boat rides and a pirate school will also be on offer each day.
Foyle Maritime Festival will host the Clipper fleets during the festival, with Queen’s Quay Queens once again be transformed into a maritime wonderland.
