Fans in limbo amid concert uncertainty

Garth Brooks fans affected by the recent uncertainty surrounding his concerts have been advised that a leading tribute act will definitely be performing in Derry at the weekend.

Veteran Garth Brooks impersonator and well-known local singer Jason Hughes has now been secured for the annual Waterside Links Festival.

The popular event will return on Saturday July 19th from 12pm to 4pm and will be staged at St Columb’s Park.

A spokeswoman for the Waterside Links Festival said:

“Have you missed out on all the Garth Brooks mania? Well come along on the day as we have the one and only tribute act Jason Hughes playing.”

She added: “Headlining this year are the professional and outstanding band The Hitmen, and the upcoming local band Foreign Owl.”

As well as the musicians on stage there will also be a host of other artistic and cultural talent on display at the festival.

Among those putting in an appearance will be expert salsa dancers, and flamenco dancers, while the talented Mandarin Choir make a return.

There will be over 20 different stalls to browse on the day.

Nail technicians will be operating. Also, promoting healthy living and showing off his amazing skills is Sha Martin, holding workshops and opportunities to taste his delicious food.

Local people will also be able to see birds of prey at close quarters during the event.

The festival will feature a widest range of inflatable items for the young people to enjoy, as well as a Laser Tag game to keep them entertained.

The Fire Brigade will be present on the day with their fire truck, which people can come along and inspect.

Mean while the police will likewise be taking part with their PSNI cars or motorbikes.

Plenty of workshops will be running throughout the day to make small crafts.

The Waterside Links spokeswoman said: “The festival food will also be available throughout the day and plenty of fun and laughter so come along for an unforgettable experience.

“Waterside Area Partnership would like to thank Derry City Council for funding this event.”
