Farren to receive brain tumour treatment in Mexico

Derry City F.C. legend Mark Farren will receive specialist brain tumour treatment in Mexico after a fundraising page set up on his behalf raised close to £40,000.

The Greencastle born footballer is expected to travel to Mexico with his wife Terri Louise within the next two weeks.

The 33 year-old former Derry City F.C. and Glenavon F.C. star was diagnosed with a grade four brain tumour earlier this year.

On April 1 Farren had brain surgery but not all of the tumour was removed. Farren then felt his only option was to try and finance specialist treatment in either Mexico or Germany. Farren will travel to Mexico later this month where his treatment will commence.

Speaking to the ‘Journal’ earlier this month, Farren thanked everyone for their generosity.

“I am very, very emotional and happy at the same time,” said Farren.

“I can’t believe it - it’s given me the motivation to keep on fighting.”
