An area recently used to store bonfire materials at Meenan Square in the Bogside has been fenced off.
The move comes following concerns raised over the gathering of materials on the site prior to the August 15th bonfire at the bottom of the Lecky Road bonfire. Safety concerns have also been expressed about the state of the buildings at Meenan Square.
A spokesperson for Derry & Strabane Council last week confirmed that it was working with the owners of the property to ensure compliance with an enforcement notice which requires the buildings to be secured and removal of waste.
The owner of the property had asked Council to remove waste following the recent bonfire and had agreed to pay Council for this work. The owner was required to secure the buildings once waste materials were removed.
